2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth
Memorize this verse. Recite it to yourself often. Study it, know it, make it part of you and everything that you do. This is the heart and soul of a sermon: study, study, study, and then study some more.
Read constantly and on a broad range of subjects. Classics, poetry, history, geography, current events, and anthropology are some of my favorites. T. F. Tenney once said …

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Two escaped convicts have dodged a huge manhunt – by disguising themselves as SHEEP.
The pair dressed in full sheepskin fleeces, complete with heads, to lie low among farm flocks.
Robbers Maximiliano Pereyra, 25, and Ariel Diaz, 28, stole the sheep hides from a ranch after breaking out of an Argentinian maximum security prison a week ago.
And they have managed to evade the 300 cops on their trail – despite locals seeing them running …

I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, “No. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, “No. His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.”
I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, “No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned.”
I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, “No. I provide blessings and benefits; happiness is up to you.”
I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, “No. Suffering …

The chimp Y chromosome has now been fully sequenced, and the results are astounding.  A study in Nature reveals that the chimp Y chromosome is radically different than the human Y chromosome.  The chimp’s Y chromosome has only two-thirds the number of distinct genes/gene families, and 47% of the protein coding regions compared to its human counterpart.  Furthermore, more than 30% of the entire chimp Y chromosome has no counterpart in humans.  Even those segments that do have counterparts in the human Y chromosome are often located in different regions …

Vision is about what could be and should be, but life is about right this minute. As important as we believe it is for people in our organizations to embrace our pictures of the future, their lives are consumed with the present.

Poem for Parents of Special Needs Children
“A meeting was held quite far from earth. It was time again for another birth.
Said the angels to the Lord above — This special child will need much love.
Her progress may be slow, accomplishment she may not show.
And she’ll require extra care from folks she meets down there.
She may not run or laugh or play, her thoughts may seem quite far away.
So many times she will be labeled ‘different’, ‘helpless’, and ‘disabled’.
So let’s be careful where she’s sent. We want her life to be …

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd (Jehovah-Raha) ; I shall not want (Jehovah-Jireh).
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures (Jehovah-Shalom): he leadeth me beside the still waters (Jehovah-Raha).
He restoreth my soul (Jehovah-Rapha): he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake (Jehovah-Tsidkenu).
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil (Jehovah-Nissi) : for thou art with me (Jehovah Shammah) ; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (Jehovah Raha).
Thou preparest a table before me in the …

You can preach for two reasons: because you have to or because you have to.
The first “have to” is because you are on the schedule. The second “have to” is because you have fire shut up in your bones, you have a word from the Lord, you have something conceived by the Holy Spirit that you cannot keep inside. Nothing is worse that the first “have to.” Nothing is greater than the second “have to.”
Jeremiah 20:9 ought to be every preacher’s mantra: “His word is in my heart …
