The Abortion Debate Dichotomy

An interesting article appeared in the news recently that shares a theme with many other such articles over the years. The story went something like this, “Suspect beats pregnant woman, killing unborn child. Facing murder charges.” Interestingly, states, courts, law enforcement agencies and individuals seem to find horror in the loss of life of the unborn when it was not the mother’s choice, but those same systems uphold the rights of a mother to do the same if she chooses. This double standard breeds a skewed perception of morality, and places the life of a child (born or unborn) at the mercy of subjective choice. Either life is valuable, or it is not. Either murder is wrong or it isn’t. Those who support abortion must either cease to do so, or cede that no life is truly important or valuable.
